Fawns (Odocoileus hemionus columbianus)
These photographs are of Blacktail deer fawns that were brought into Wildcare-a hospital that treats injured wildlife with the goal to released back to wild. The surviving fawns were brought to the recovery site for rehabilitation and foster care until their release back to the wild. I photographed the fawns once a week from May 08 to September 08.
Some of the photographs are of fawns inside the clinic and most are from the vantage point of sitting on the ground under a tree or near cover and photographing their interactions and behavior within their small herd.
My interest in photographing the fawns is to bring awareness to fawn rehabilitation and "living with deer" in urban areas.

#0395 - male - 04.17.08 - was found in a storm drain near trail head by hiker - released 09.14.08.
#0515 - female - 04.29.08 - found in yard trying to nurse from a dog - released 09.20.08.
#0575 - female - 05.07.08 - found in residential construction site - died in foster care.
#0609 - 2 males - 05.12.08 - the does was hit by car, twin fawns found nearby - both released 9.14.08.
#0616 - male - 05.22.08 - found near parking structure, had broken pelvis, cracked femur - released 09.20.08.
#0719 - 2 males - twin fawns found, no doe in sight, thought abandoned - both released 09.14.08.
#0821 - female - the doe was hit by car, fawn found near by - released 09.20.08.
#0977 - male - the doe was hit by car near construction site, fawn found in the construction site - died in foster care.
#0998 - female - chased by dog and was caught under a fence - died in foster care.
